Description: The Windsor High School Speech and Debate is back and ready for another year of great competition. Speech and Debate is a competitive, CHSAA-sanctioned activity where students develop their ability to speak, think, write, argue, and communicate effectively. More than that, though, Speech and Debate is a close-knit community of coaches and students that come together to engage in how to discuss and communicate the ideas about which they are passionate. This team is nothing if not a community-driven activity.
Speech and Debate gives students the chance to find the events that fit their personality and interests. Whether you love performing, arguing, writing, making people laugh, telling stories, or just want to find a great community of people to be with, Speech and Debate has a place for you.
There are many competitive events to choose from, and here's a quick glance at what they look like:
Speech events allow students to perform, inform, persuade, interpret, and entertain. Depending on the event, students might write and deliver an original speech, perform a dramatic or humorous piece, or create spontaneous speeches about current events.
Debate events challenge students to research important issues, develop arguments, think critically, and respond to opposing viewpoints. Students will learn how to build a case, question arguments, use evidence and research effectively, and defend their own ideas under pressure.
Each and every event allows students a chance to earn awards, scholarships, and access to a supportive and active community. For more information, check out the National Speech and Debate Association's website.
